Liverpool Council to be given land for free by English Partnerships

New evidence of the downturn in the property market has emerged today from Liverpool Council who have been offered a piece of land free of charge.

Unable to sell the land in Latimer Street, Kirkdale (next to a council shopping parade), English Partnerships has agreed to literally give the land to the council.

"English Partnerships inherited the land from Liverpool Housing Action Trust and as they have no desire to retain the land, an approach was made to ascertain whether the city council wished to purchase the site," says a council report.

"The initial approach from English Partnerships was rejected by the City Council and the land was subsequently offered for sale at auction.

"The land did not sell at the auction and English Partnerships have made a further approach to the City Council.

"Following negotiations terms have been provisionally agreed for the City Council to accept a transfer of the freehold interest in the land for nil consideration, with each party paying their own costs...

Unsurprisingly the council's executive board is are being recommended to accept the free piece of land.

"In the event that the land was sold to a third party, future access arrangements over the land for the city council's tenants at 113 - 119 Latimer Street, could be impeded. This would be detrimental to the tenants and cause management problems for the City Council."
