Famous Liverpool lawyer Rex Makin has stirred things up today with his ECHO column.

He asks whether Liberal Democrat Steve Hurst acted alone when delivering smear leaflets which saw him convicted of election law.

He writes: "A senior Lib-Dem suggested to me that he could not have committed the offence without others being involved.

"Was Hurst the fall guy?"

Well whatever the answer opposition parties in Liverpool don't seem to be in a rush to let this story settle. First it was Labour kicking off this week about Cllr Hurst's appointment to Merseytravel.

And then the Greens announced that Edge Lane campaigner Elizabeth Pascoe will be standing against him in his Wavertree seat next year.
