Wirral councillors lead the way with Twitter

So congratulations it is then to Wirral Council, which has the highest number of councillors of any authority outside London using social networking site Twitter to communicate with the electorate.
Wirral currently has eight councillors using Twitter, all of whom are Conservatives.
The borough is closely followed by Liverpool which has seven using Twitter, all of whom bar one (Labour's Louise Baldock) are Liberal Democrats.
According to Cllr Tweeps almost 300 councillors across the UK now use Twitter.
Cllr Sue Taylor who represents New Brighton said: "Twitter is just another way of reaching people - telling them what we are doing and also giving them another easy way of contacting us.
"It's less hassle than Facebook and is easier to update throughout the day. Some councils also use Twitter to tell residents about planning applications and key activities and police forces are also providing crime alerts on the site. It's about time Wirral Council caught up."
The eight 'Tweeting' councillors in Wirral are: Leah Fraser, Chris Blakeley, Sue Taylor, James Keeley, Jeff Green, Lesley Rennie, Simon Mountney and Ian Lewis.
The seven in Liverpool are Colin Eldridge, Paula Keaveney, Erica Kemp, Richard Kemp, Berni Turner, Paul Twigger, and Louise Baldock.
