"Special" Liverpool Liberal Democrat meeting convened

Liberal Democrats in Liverpool have been called to a rapidly convened "special" meeting on Friday.

I am told that high on the agenda will be the investigation launched into the appointment of Colin Eldridge's girlfriend at the council.

Another issue is likely to be regeneration select committee chairman Eddie Clein's comments after he demanded a report on the "pros and cons" of Liverpool's presence at next year's World Expo in Shaghai.

No doubt there will be other topics up for discussion.

I would not normally blog on group meetings as they happen fairly routinely, but I am told this was one was specially convened...

My sources tell me that this emergency meeting has been called by a number of LibDems who have been startled to learn that one of their number has a girlfriend. Apparently this is regarded as a severe lack of judgement in certain LibDem circles. This caucus has concluded that it might be better to replace Colin Eldridge as the candidate in Wavertree with someone who could even win. Eldridge will be asked to stand aside 'for personal reasons' because he wishes to spend 'more time with his girlfriend'. The selection of an alternative candidate continues to divide the LibDems. One faction favours Cllr Keith Turner who supporters see as a dynamic and invigorating wellspring of bright ideas. But leader Warren Bradley insists the candidate must be someone who likes a fight. This is taken to mean convicted criminal Cllr Steve Hurst. Most of the meeting will therefore be devoted to Eldridge explaining what a 'girlfriend' is for; and then something from Laura on the size of Eldridge's flannel. Towards the end, LibDems plan a face-off between Turner & Hurst, the details of which have not yet been released.

Corporal Jones: DON'T PANIC! DON'T PANIC!

The corrupt, sleazy Lib Dems are left looking really quite pathetic.

Bradley has called this meeting to bang heads together and try and get some discipline into the rabble. There is more coming on the Lib Dems too - no doubt it will all be dismissed as the usual 'rubbish', by them.

The first post made me laugh.

If Labour spent more time campaigning than writing on EVERY blog under the stars, then they might have a better chance of holding on to their seat in Wavertree.

This is not just any old blog, Tom. This is the Boy Wonder's blog. And while you are putting out your rubbish or being subject to some expensive corporate hospitality, we are campaigning in any way we can. Get used to it, boyo.
