Ladbrokes odds for five Merseyside seats in the General Election

By David Bartlett on Oct 7, 09 10:48 AM in

A commenter raised the question of the odds Ladbrokes were quoting for Liverpool Wavertree for the General Election.

For the avoidance of doubt HERE is the link.

Below are the odds as given by Ladbrokes for a number of seats:

Liverpool Wavertree: Labour 1.66, Liberal Democrats 2.10, Conservatives 101.

Sefton Central: Conservatives 1.57, Labour 2.37, Liberal Democrats 21.

Wirral West: Conservatives 1.10, Labour 6, Liberal Democrats 101.

Wallasey: Labour 1.20, Conservatives 4, Liberal Democrats 101.

Southport: Conservatives 1.50, Liberal Democrats 2.50, Labour 101.

Very intresting and enlightening post David, although ive just had to visit a conversion site as dont understand odds expressed as decimals. I blame growing up in Thatcher's Britain!

Bookies are not often wrong are they?

some stingy bets there though, Labour are dead and buried in Wirral west, should be more like 50/1 with South not far behind after Chapman's "issues"

Im very curious to know the odds for Bootle, Walton and West Derby as well ;-)

The most intresting bet I spotted on the Ladbrokes site was The next MP for West derby quoted at 100/1 to be next Labour leader. Perhaps worth a pound or two given the likley derth of talent in the Labour party once they are massacared on May 6th next year by the Tories.

Victor,
Yeah I too would like to know about those seats, but Ladbrokes aren't giving odds which I'm guessing means that they are convinced Labour can't lose in those seats. I thought the Southport one was interesting. That said I don't think it's a dead cert that John Pugh will lose there.

yes im sure you are right about the safer seats and lack of odds

i also expect JOhn Pugh (who is that rare creature of a lim dem i respect) to hold on by at least 2k agaisnt the tories

My spies tell me that Joe Benton is unlikley to stand again which gives a VERY safe seat for someone. National interest in that seat youd have to think.

logically it may be better for Joe benton to stand, win , then resign immesdiatly forcing a by-election wherby by one of the many talented MP who may lose would get a safe passage back to parliament. Although perhaps im far too cynical

Wasnt there a rumour that Cherie Blair was going to be parachuted into Bootle?

Could be. Parachutes are made of silk.

I think the one thing we know about ms Cherie Booth QC is that she is fond of top dollar

therfore she will not want to become an MP given its compartive lowly wage compared to that of a QC and Judge for instance

If Benton does stand down though Labour would be foolish to not gerrymander someone decent into bootle

First Secretary of state anyone?

I have to admit, Ronnie, that made me laugh. We may not agree on most things but at least we share a sense of humour.

He's back, and with an Olive Branch. That is nice. Shows we should not all get too heated up about things and try and find some common ground. So will everybody stop going on and on about him buying The Sun PLEASE!!!!???
