Police are investigating a break-in at the campaign office of Liberal Democrat Colin Eldridge in Smithdown Road.

Two laptops and a petty cash box were stolen on Saturday night/Sunday morning.

Rumours that Eldridge's office had suffered its very own Watergate moment have been quashed by his election agent Tom Morrison though.

He said: "We don't think it was politically motivated."
