Finnegan goes a bit Thick of It in 'tasty' clash with McElhinney

David McElhinney and Matt Finnegan
Fans pleased to see The Thick of It back on our TV screens will be amused by a recent incident involving Merseyside's very own Malcolm Tucker.
An eye witness tells me of a chance encounter by Liverpool Council's former chief spin doctor Matt Finnegan and the boss of the controversial Liverpool Direct Limited, David McElhinney.
Finnegan holds McElhinney, former executive director for the city's Central Services, at least partly responsible for his well-documented exit from the council.
Not surprisingly, their surprise confrontation in Castle Street got a little bit "tasty", according to one astonished passer-by.
I'm told Finnegan borrowed from the Malcolm Tucker charm school to launch a blistering and persistent verbal tirade against McElhinney - once the right hand man of former council chief executive Sir David Henshaw.
McElhinney was apparently physically shaken by the episode.
Sadly I can't bring you any Tucker-style quotes from the confrontation, but HERE is a link to some quotes from previous series.
One wonders what a chance encounter between Finnegan and former nemesis Sir David might bring?

How Mattyfilarious!
This post has made my day.
Its always a good day when you hear of the public humilation of a man who wont last past next may and has been a cancer spreading their evil cabal in LCC for far too long
The complicity of the ruling admin in this man's dreadful behaviour will be hung as an albatross around their neck in a similar way to militant is used agaisnt the current liverpool labour group
anyone for an ã36 mouse or a 4k Laptop?
Matt Finnigan was attacking Dr Evil in the name of every right thinking council tax payer in this city
Mine too.
I had long given up the hope that any justice would happen after all the unbelievable activities of Liverpool Direct and the complicity of certain senior officers with the city council, but I am absolutely delighted that someone has finally confronted one of the major architects of such bad governance and naked greed and self-interest. My only regret is that I was not there to witness it - it must have been extremely satisfying. Good on Mr Fininegan!
Who is really having the last laugh here? Finnegan, who is reduced to ranting like a common thug in broad daylight, like a nutter who has completely lost the plot. Or McElhinney, who goes back into his plush office with his mega salary, and phones his former colleagues in the cabal to boast how Finnegan is still completely bitter and twisted about the whole affair. How very satisfying for the Doctor.
Whether or not one goes back to a plush office and one is doing an impression of Malcolm Tucker is irrelevant when deciding who "wins".
The winner is the one who can hold their head high in the company of other people, knowing that they have not played a part in parting a proud city desperate for funds from its hard-earned cash. The one who would be welcome in most bars and restaurants of the city as opposed to scuttling round, scared of their own shadow because one day the auditor may come.
So one may not be milking it with a plush office (paid for by us the people). I know which one I would rather be. But then, I like to thnk of myself as someone with a bit of dignity.
From what I can gather, the said Dr was in no fit state to boast about anything, after being confronted with the truth for the first time in his life. I doubt whether he had any satisfaction at all as he scurried away with his tail between his legs. I think Finegan will have been most satisfied with the confrontation. Not to mention some sadly missed blogs...
