Liberal Democrats are first party to select all candidates for Liverpool seats

The Liberal Democrats in Liverpool have become the first party in the city to have all five parliamentary candidates in place for the General Election.
The party already had Colin Eldridge lined up for Wavertree, Paul Twigger for West Derby, and Paula Keaveney for Garston and Halewood.
We now know that former city councillor Pat Moloney will be taking on Labour's Peter Kilfoyle in his Walton safe seat.
And Richard Marbrow, selected quite a while ago, will be going up against Louise Ellman in the Labour safe seat of Riverside.
All eyes will be on Colin Eldridge in Wavertree where the party stands the most chance of winning.

Great story David.
I didn't realise that Bernard Manning was making a comeback.
For heavens sake, we need people of substance, intellect and policy to represent us in parliament, not this bunch of catwalk fashion models. They may well all have the Boyzone / Kylie good looks to attract the celeb obsessed young voter but do they have the political vision?
Do they have the depth to go with the girth?
We need strong minded people to represent us in an election that is fought on the issues that matter not as a beauty contest.
I would like to see some clear policies from them. For example, how are we going to tackle the growing problem of obesity amongst the city's population?
Surely the story here is: 'Liberal Democrats continue to fail on gender equality'
4 blokes, white and middle aged, and they give the woman a hopelessly unwinnable seat.
Further, line these up against the current MPs or candidates, and its pretty clear that the calibre of Lib Dem candidates leaves a hell of a lot to be desired.
Colin Eldridge and Paul Twigger "middle-aged"? Surely not. Also, I'm surprised that it seems to be taking forever for the Labour Party cabal to decide on whether to have an all-women shortlist for Wavertree. Is this to give the fragrant Luciana more time to get her act together? This isn't good for the local Liverpool Labour candidates, is it? Will they kick up a fuss? I think not.
Streetwise, daarling, you're back! How lovely. And with lots of flannel too, I see. Now since you've raised the matter, do tell us about Lib Dem selection procedures. How do you come up with the quality of candidates on display here? It must take some courage. For example, do you summon the troops, then announce a selection process, and the last one out the door gets it? Or do you switch off the lights first, then pick the candidate?
Erm...perhaps Ronnie might see that all the Lib Dem candidates are locally-based and not parachuted in by Labour Party apparatchicks. The bun fight for the Wavertree seat is going to be a real test of LLP internal discipline
given the number of personal egos, ambitions and calibre of the local councillors who've waited for years for Jane Kennedy to throw in the towel. They're going to really enjoy going out canvassing and delivering through the dark winter months for the fragrant Luciana, no doubt.
Good point Streetwise. I mean Colin Eldridge is a right scouser isn't he..... Oh no, hang on, he isn't.
Try again.
I don't think you should mention 'parachutes' in the context of those candidates; it really isn't in the best of taste. None of them look like natural sky-divers. And what's this thing you have about "fragrant Luciana"? I'd keep your eye on 'tweety-pie Laura' if I were you; she might get jealous. Oh, and one more thing - I don't think you should wear a yellow tie. It looks like you've split custard down your bib.
How come you never ever deal with any of the real issues like the Labour contest for Wavertree? Too boring for you, I suppose. By the way, I'm not Pat Moloney.
Any meetings on Christmas Day this year Streetwise?
Ho Ho Ho.
(Like I said, your only purpose in this blog is to slag off the Lib Dems to try and get a reaction...not deal with the real issues. Is this the best you can do?)
Well said Streetie, Ronnie and Scamp would do well to look at the true populist Lib dem supporters blog that often carries comments from senior local party members. It is where the Liverpool Lib dems conduct their high brow political debate, which is basically witless abuse. It was voted as one of the most poular Lib dem sites by the lib dems which shows the quality of the rest. Dude the Dog, where the Lib dems deal with " The real issues" ha hahahahahahaha!
By the way what does the Sun say about the Wavertree seat?
Still don't get it do you. Dude is meant to be satirical...not "high-brow political debate". This is meant to give opinions on the stuff which David blogs about - hopefully constuctive but not always so. You still haven't reacted at all to my comments about the Labour candidates I see. I wonder why? Too risky the way things are, I bet. Sad that you decided to use a different pseudonym for your gentle teasing, Ronnie. Hmmm...must try harder.
I am surprised that the Liberal Democrats should select Richard Marbrow again. Particularly after he was unceremoniously booted out of his Kensington seat, closely followed by his mate Frank Doran, as soon as voters got the chance. I wonder how they will both come out if and when the Kensington Regeneration Story is finally told. Admittedly, Marbrow is probably one of the brightest of the Liverpool Lib Dems, which isn't saying a great deal, but unfortunately he would also probably be the first to tell you so. A man who hangs on his every word, which really doesn't endear you to the electorate in a deprived ward like Riverside.
Tell them about the great success of regenerating the city and Liverpool One and how it has changed their lives to be able to see all those luxury developments through the cracked bathroom window. (note to Louise Ellman: get bathroom window fixed)
But at least Marbrow had the measure of some of his local party colleagues and leaders and for that at least I can respect him. I suppose I am more surprised that somebody like Paula Keaveney wasn't selected for Wavertree. She is very bright and strikes me as a honourable candidate, whether you agree with her politics or not. Maybe they thought they had no chance in Wavertree, until the problems emerged with Jane Kennedy, the expenses, the Brown coup that never was etc. Then when the receive what should have been an electoral gift horse, it is too late as they have put up what I think will be an electoral cart horse. LetâÂÂs be honest, Warren Bradley didn't think Colin Eldridge was bright enough for his own cabinet and dumped him. Now if Warren Bradley thinks you are not good or bright enough to serve as an executive member of his own team, at a time when they got us labelled as the worst run local authority in the country, why on earth would they think Colin Eldridge was good enough to represent the people of Wavertree in Parliament?
As for Mr Twigger....I thought his main experience was in the post room to be frank. One last thing, I think the gratuitous, silly remark comparing Pat Maloney to the late Bernard Manning was childish and not helpful to the political debate. I am with Streetwise on that one. Besides, Manning was a Manchester comedian.
The commenter probably instead meant the fine and fondly remembered Liverpool comic, George Roper.
"Missus, Me Wellies! Vote Lib dem and get some free wellies missus, youâÂÂll need them when you see the financial sh*t weâÂÂve left the city inâÂÂ
Right, thatâÂÂs me. LetâÂÂs keep it constructive please and no more nonsense.
