Politicians still have a sense of humour over expenses

It's good to see that politicians still have a sense of humour.

Readers will remember that Liverpool Liberal Democrat Andrew Makinson mistakenly claimed expenses for attending a planning meeting on Christmas Day.

The meeting had taken place on November 25.

But gamely Cllr Makinson proved that he still has a sense of humour over the issue.

He is chairing a scrutiny panel into the workings of Liverpool Direct Limited.

At the end of the first sitting there was a discussion about the scheduling of the next meeting.

It was suggested that some information needed might not be available until around Christmas.

"Have it on Christmas Day if you want to," quipped Cllr Makinson to laughs from the rest of the panel.

Who said politicians don't have a sense of humour?

I see Colin Hilton is having a laugh too. His enquiry into the appointment of Cllr Eldridge's girlfriend to a £30,000 unadvertised job with the Council has concluded that "correct procedures were followed". My sides are aching.
