UPDATE: The Labour race for Wavertree
So the chatter is continuing about who will be in the running for the Labour candidacy for Wavertree.
So here is an update:
Anna Rothery is still the only declared candidate. But I sense that the speed with which she declared has damaged her chances.
Steve Rotheram is still the front runner, but if the National Executive Committee opt for an all women shortlist next week then that will obviously rule him out.
As mentioned earlier in the week rising star Luciana Berger still remains a strong candidate. Although she has not ruled herself in or out, her attendance at the launch of Liverpool Labour's website and fundraiser last night would appear to make clear that she is definitely interested.
Apparently she had also been in Liverpool on Wednesday.
I am told that she had already had a ticket to attend the event long before Jane Kennedy's announcement that she was standing down. So by all accounts she was planning to attend the event anyway. All eyes were on her last night, and inevitably with a young candidate from outside the area (she's in her late 20s and from London), there have been some whispers of discontent.
A friend of hers tells me: "she is very clever, friendly, and would make a great candidate". Praise indeed.
No doubt there are others in the wings that are yet to emerge, but those three names are the ones currently being discussed.
