Labour's Anna Rothery pulls out of race for Wavertree

Labour councillor Anna Rothery has pulled out of the race to become the party's candidate for the Wavertree constituency.
I've just received this email from Cllr Rothery:
After much deliberation and soul searching I have decided to withdraw my expression of interest in the Wavertree Parliamentary seat. I have received a great deal of support and encouragement from my constituents, local and national organisations to whom I wish to extend my gratitude.
And although it would be a great honour to represent the city at Westminster I have made the decision to remain in the Princes Park Ward and channel my energies to bringing about positive changes, by ensuring resources are utilised for local constituents.
I will continue to play an active role in local governance issues and will be standing as the Labour candidate in Princes Park Ward in the local elections in May 2010 and concentrating all my efforts on securing a Labour council for the city of Liverpool
I will offer my undivided support to the Labour candidate who will be standing for the Wavertree Parliamentary seat.

Why is this big news? Cllr Rothery had no chance of being selected whatsoever!
