Merseyrail drop unfair season ticket policy

Well done to Merseyrail for agreeing to drop their unfair policy of not allowing zone changes to season tickets.

After I wrote about this it was taken up by Conservative leader on transport authority Merseytravel Chris Blakeley.

A report into Merseyrail passes is on the agenda for Merseytravel's rail services committee which meets today, read it here railservicesreport.pdf.

From now on the rules dictating rail passes will be the same as those covering TRIOs - a pass for buses, trains, and ferries.

Although this is unfair, I can't imagine it actually affected more than a few people in any given year. Still, well done on getting the policy changed.

Now, if you want to poke around in Merseyrail matters, how about this one: there are fifteen Class 508 trains (the same type as used on the Northern and Wirral Lines) sitting unused in various sidings around south-east England, after the London-based train companies that previously used them declared them surplus to requirements. Some of them have been out of use since December 2008, so... why has Merseyrail not made a bid for them to provide more 6-car trains and tackle the overcrowding problem they claim to have?
