Riverside MP Louise Ellman in the spotlight over her son's Meow meow business

Mephedrone.jpgWe're into full social panic mode on killer legal drug Mephedrone, AKA MCAT or Meow meow, now and Liverpool Riverside MP Louise Ellman has borne the brunt of one of the latest stories.

She finds herself in the spotlight after it was revealed her son Sean, 37, is the owner of Dr Hermans which sells the legal high.

She's come out strongly saying she "disapproves" of his activities. It's one of those hugely embarrassing stories for an elected politician, but realistically there is not much she could have done.

Ms Ellman is safe in Riverside though, and this will have little effect on her being re-elected to parliament in the General Election.

I still remember with fondness hearing the news that Jack Straw, who was Home Secretary at the time, was the previously-unnamed cabinet minister whose son had been taken into custody for possession of cannabis.

Her son is around six years younger than Nick Clegg. Nick Clegg was 38 when he entered parliament. Her son is 37.

Her son is around 7 years younger than David Cameron. David Cameron was 35 (34) when he entered parliament. Her son is 37.

He has not done anything illegal but in the hysteria that seems to count for nothing. At the least he is naive (doubtful). His trade is somehow distasteful though.

However, as I have demonstrated above, the idea that somehow Ellman should be chastised for her son's behaviour would mean that both Clegg and Cameron (interestingly, two people who were parachuted into their seats) would have had to check with their parents before standing.

Ridiculous.
