Steve Rotheram crushes rivals to win Labour candidacy in Walton
No surprise that Liverpool's former Lord Mayor Steve Rotheram won the Labour candidacy for Walton.
It all be guarantees that he will be the next MP for the ultra-safe seat, where he will replace Peter Kilfoyle.
But the level of his victory is astonishing. Cllr Rotheram crushed his rivals. His four rivals could only muster 12 votes to his 101.
Like I've said previously it was never in doubt once his name was on the ballot paper, but he will be pleased to have won so decicively.
Sending Cllr Rotheram to parliament will however, leave Liverpool Labour leader Joe Anderson with a big hole to fill on his frontbench, as Cllr Rotheram is the party's culture spokesman.

I think Joe is glad that Mayor-wondeful has gone.. the rumours never ceased about Steve moving against Joe in the foreseeable future..
Congratulations to Steve on his selection.
I love the photo too. Is this the basis for a jigsaw or one of those sliding tile puzzles?
And I'm tickled to think that Joe will have a 'huge hole in his front bench'! If he ends up as leader of the council it's the holes in the roads he'll need to worry about.
Well done Cllr Rotheram, his speech at the Hillsborough memorial last year was, in my view, one of the most touching I have heard.
I respect this guy alot.
