Wirral South MP Alison McGovern appointed Gordon Brown's PPS

alison_mcgovern.jpgNew Wirral South MP Alison McGovern today proves herself as a rising star of the Labour party.

Gordon Brown has appointed Ms McGovern as his Parliamentary Private Secretary (PPS) and will effectively be his right-hand woman once parliament returns.

Naturally she's delighted with the opportunity to learn from the former prime minister.

"One of the [new] intake who has most impressed me is Alison McGovern and I'm delighted that she has agreed to be my PPS," said Mr Brown.

Agreed. She did a fine job holding onto Wirral South after the Ben Chapman fiasco. But that is also Alison McGovern's 'Achilles heel'. Wirral South is far from being natural Labour Party territory. After boundary changes to be shoved through by the Tories, you can bet by the next election it will be even harder to hold. Anyway, good luck to her.
