Liberal Democrats react to Ian Jobling's defection to Labour

There has been a small stirring in Liberal Democrat circles about the defection of their former colleague Ian Jobling.

Cllr Paul Twigger tells us via twitter that "today I will mainly be sticking to my principles and staying exactly where I am".

Cllr Tom Morrison, again on twitter, has urged Labour to take Lembit Opik. Before adding: "Hope's my old mate enjoys his new 'home with the warmongers, recession creators and thugs. Good on him :)"

Cllr Morrison defected from Labour to the Liberal Democrats. Well maybe it was just a switch in parties as he had not yet been elected at that point.

Former Knowsley Cllr Dave Smithson tweeted "5 reasons why I'm NOT defecting - Iraq War; the Deficit; Gap between rich and poor wider; People out of work UP; Waste and bureaucracy UP".

He then wrote a whimsical blog post about why he was not defecting. Read it HERE.

EXCLUSIVE! Councillor Ian Lewis is tomorrow announcing that he won't be defecting to the Liberal Democrats in order to then defect to New Labour...

Ian Joblin? You're having a laugh aren't you? I was going to vote Labour but I'm not voting for him.
Never returns calls, never answers emails. The guy is a waste of space.

Cllr Morrison left Labour because of the Iraq War.

Ian Joblin's defection to Labour has nothing to do with morals, values or ideology but mere personal interests.

THERE'S A DIFFERENCE.

Oooops. It appears to have got under their skin a bit, doesn't it David? Bitter, very bitter.

And I promise I wont mention the Institute of Fiscal Studies report today which says that the Coalition's Budget - which councillors Twigger, Morrison and Smithson presumably still support - penalises the poorest more than the richest for the bankers recession.

Still, lets see what the Lib Dems can boast about after their first five years in power for 50 years. If they last that long...

Hmm hasnt Ian Jobling just cost himself 10K by defecting?

Cant be on the police authority now

unfortunatly dosent fit in with the Fib dem agenda with regard to smears of a man who has discovered his principals!

Here's the facts. Jobling first joins the Young Conservatives, then defects to the [then] Liberals. Decides to join up with the Liberal Democrats who have a massive majority on the Council. Gets elected, does zilch for a couple of years apart from getting on the Police Authority, then jumps ship after the shock results of the May 2010 elections. Principles? Integrity? Honesty? No...pure greed and self-survival more like - should find a happy home in the Labour Party.

Here's some more facts. Nick Clegg, joins Young Conservatives at university; defects to LibDems. Publishes 'Orange Book', a right-wing manifesto that commits LibDems to Tory policies. Becomes lapdog in Coalition. Principles? Integrity? Honesty? No...pure power hunger and self-advancement more like.

@Defector: you want more? I knew you would! OK, let's try avoiding the convicted LibDem criminal and thug Steve Hurst for a change. And we'll not go looking for principles and integrity in Sharon Green this time either. Let's just stick to 'floor-crossers'. Let stick to one recent 'floor-crosser' welcomed to their benches with open arms by the Liverpool LibDems. Step forward that paragon of principle and integrity - Nadia Stewart.
