The secret life of Liverpool councillor Tom Morrison

Every now and then you find something out about a person that takes you a little by surprise.

Last night I stumbled upon a Twitter conversation between one of Liverpool's newest councillors Tom Morrison (some may know him for having run Colin Eldridge's failed attempt to get elected to represent Liverpool Wavertree) and Labour campaigner Stephanie Till.

When he's not politicking for the Liberal Democrats, or rowing with someone on Dale Street Blues, it turns out that Cllr Morrison (voted to represent the Church ward in May) is the front man in a Liverpool ska band - The Stopouts.

He spilled the beans to Stephanie that they are recording an album.

Here is a mini (not entirely serious) interview as conducted on Twitter last night.

Q: is there a political message in the song(s)? Maybe you get (to) play at Lib Dem conference?

A: we're uber political.. Far too radical for #libdemconference

Q: if you had to write a song about the coalition, what would be its title?

A: ummm good question, I'd sooner write a song about LCC's administration 'How did the cat get so fat?' ;)

Q: ooh, well deflected. Don't make me go all paxo on you #politiciansswervinganswers

A: always on message #chrisrennardwouldbeproud

Personally I'm not a fan of ska, but if you'd like to hear some of the band's work visit their myspace site.

Well done Tom for having a life outside of politics! I was a big ska fan when I was in my teens (oops, showing my age!). I might even go along to the gig! It is good to see some lighthearted banter between the two parties instead of the usual "daggers drawn". A nice little blog, thanks for sharing it with us.
