Labour party membership levels in Liverpool revealed
One result of the Labour party leadership election has been that the party has disclosed the exact number of members in each Constituency Labour Party.
In Liverpool the breakdown is as follows:
Liverpool Riverside 427
Liverpool Walton 197
Liverpool Wavertree 319
Liverpool West Derby 250
Garston and Halewood 451
Interesting that Walton, now held by the likeable Steve Rotheram, is the safest Labour seat in the country, yet has a very low membership base.
The membership base, which many expected to be higher, has caused a few giggles in Liberal Democrat circles.
We don't know what the Lib-Dem membership numbers are in Liverpool, but they are not believed to be as high as Labour's.

LibDem membership is less than 200 - for the entire city
The bulk are in Wavertree as one might expect. But the 5:1 ratio in favour of Labour isn't all it seems. The LibDem membership is on average much younger, with fewer elderly or longstanding members. Hence the LibDems get about five times more activity from their smaller base which evens matters up somewhat. But there are exceptions to the general rule on both sides. One further point of note: Labour membership locally is about 10% up since May; more young people and more women featuring among the new faces. At a guess, one might assume LibDem membership to be 10% down as the price being paid for joining the Coalition.
Read the figures again Ronnie and you'll see you're wrong.
And as for Walton - they would have lots more members but there is one particular individual who prevents many from joining.
Yep, my hasty arithmetic wasn't so hot. I realised the minute I posted. But my main points still stand
Why would the lib dems find it funny that one CLP has more members than their entire membership?
freaks.
