Eagle sisters success in shadow cabinet elections
Angela and Maria Eagle
It is pleasing to see two of our local MPs - the Eagle sisters - elected to serve in the shadow cabinet.
Angela, MP for Wallasey, came joint fourth with Andy Burnham in the entire vote and should therefore be in line for a top job.
Their success will also be useful for Merseyside in having a direct line to the party leader Ed Miliband.
Talking of the strength of the Merseyside voice in parliament, what ever happened to the Conservative's promised minister for Merseyside.
Chris Grayling, former shadow minister for Merseyside, spent many a day visiting the region in the years and months leading to the election. But yet we are still waiting for our very own minister.
The party did not have the success it expected in Merseyside, but Esther McVey did win her seat and would do the job with passion. So why are we still waiting?

This is a real boost for Labour's new shadow cabinet and for Merseyside. Well done!
It is good news, very good news indeed longer term. Angela's vote was a remarkable triumph; but both sisters deserve their place. Wait a couple of years until he's got his feet properly under the table again, and we could have Stephen Twigg as well.
hate to nit pick but Angela is not the MP for Garston and Halewood!
Sorry corrected the error.
Maria gets the Transport brief; Angela gets Chief Sec to Treasury. Both will be very important Opposition portfolios, especially Angela's, at a time of huge spending cuts.
So the cheeky girls "cannot wait to get going and help expose the government and return Labour to office as quickly as possible" huh?
What on earth are they going to expose? the poor devils that have taken over and have to sort out the mess that their labour colleagues left the country in last time?
Heaven forbid we get any more labour governments in my lifetime!
Hello, Libertarian. I guess you're quite elderly then. Judging from your comments, you're an unreconstructed sexist and misogynist too. But this 'mess' you refer to, that the last Government allegedly left. Would this be the same 'mess' caused by those well-known libertarians and bonus-seekers, the investment bankers and their Tory allies? Or some other 'mess' you have in mind? No doubt you'll have a pat way of arguing that our present financial woes have been causes by welfare nenefit claimants, single mothers and the unemployed. It's usually the way with 'libertarians'. They want freedom to earn swags of cash; freedom to sell arms to dictators; freedom to rip off the public purse for private gain. But no freedom from poverty for society's most vulnerable.
Ronnie
You think the last government left the place in good order do you? I suppose you bought the
"Britain is enjoying its longest period of sustained economic growth for more than 200 years...the longest period of sustained growth since the beginning of the industrial revolution" Gordon Brown, March 2004
AND
"Britain will not return to the boom and bust of the past" Gordon Brown, November 1999, March 2000, November 2000, March 2001, March 2004, March 2006, and March 2007
if it wasnt so tragic it would be funny!
I am nothing to do with bankers or arms dealers but they are only doing what they are paid to do - we pay our politicians and regulators to stop them running away with things - if you give a baby a loaded gun and it shoots you who's to blame?
Your government were believing the fantasy asleep at the wheel - I hold them absolutley accountable and thank God weve got a coalition of some substance to sort it out for us
Maria Eagle in the past has taken sponsorship money from Liverpool airport.
Will this stop now she is a transport spokesperson?
We wait to see (but not with much hope of integrity)
Ronnie always goes to the default argument: "You're a sexist!", "You're a misogynist!"
If you acted with some intelligence and wit, then I'm sure you'd have a happier home life.. clearly no one is paying you any attention there as you spend so much time on forums and blogs!
Poor Liverpool Lib dems. betrayed byt the national leadership on every election promise, having no policy or answers, all they can do is resort to personal abuse which is probably one of the main reasons their candidates were trashed in the local elections.
