Luciana Berger steps up to Labour's front bench (Stephen Twigg too)
Wavertree MP Luciana Berger has lived up to her rising star status after joining Labour's front bench just five months after being elected to parliament.
She has been appointed an energy and climate change spokesperson in Leader Ed Miliband's new shadow team charged with taking on the coalition government.
"I am delighted, excited ...amazed, to be honest," the 29-year-old said.
"It is an incredibly important agenda, building on the successes of the last Labour government in that field and taking forward the challenges of the 21st century."
West Derby MP Stephen Twigg has been appointed part of the shadow foreign affairs team headed by Yvette Cooper.
However, he is a front bench return of sorts, having been schools standards minister in the run-up to the 2005 general election when he lost his London seat.
"I am delighted, having known Yvette for a long time," he said.
"I can now make use of my five years out of Westminster when I ran the party's foreign policy unit."

Last governments success????? At what exactly??
Why is someone like Louise Ellman yet again overlooked- she's generally considered to be one of the most able and experienced local Labour MPs. Maybe it would be more advisable to go with such experience than someone who has only been an MP for five minutes. Looks like certain people were parachuted into Parliament on the promise of a plub job by their metropolitan chums!
I thought Ellman was only interested in keeping Gaza and the West Bank - everytime i google her speeches or questions they always seem to be concerned with Israel, precious little for Riverside constituents but then again we get the politicians we vote for and so deserve.
Louise is the chaiman of the influnetial Transport select comittee
A much better job than Berger (and perhaps Twigg) have been appointed too
you cant do both.
I belive Berger is on a select committee she will have to resign from that now if convention is followed
Perhaps more importantly for her integrity, has Luciana resigned as Director of the Labour Friends of Israel yet? She made a solemn promise to do just that if elected - the pledge is still on her website. Somehow, I doubt it. Can anyone clarify?
it seems Luciana Berger can rest assured where her integrity is concerned

A bit of simple reseach beyond the wit of your average Lib dem it seems.
Commenting on Berger's appoinment today the guardian describes Wavertree as "one of Labour's safest seats"
Nice one Colin!
