Congratulations to Belvedere Academy on winning BBC Schools Question Time competition

I am delighted to hear that Belvedere Academy in Liverpool have won BBC Schools Question Time.

The school is joined by St Ninians of the Isle of Mann, and students from both schools will now help produced BBC Question Time.

In March I took part in a question time style debate at the school as part of the competition.

Colin Parry OBE chaired the debate, and the other panelists were Belvedere student Demi McIntosh, Wirral West MP Esther McVey, Riverside MP Louise Ellman, UKIP MEP Paul Nuttall, and Unison's North West rep Frank Hont.

It was a thoroughly enjoyable afternoon and I was really impressed with the effort the girls had put into organising the event and with the quality of the questions.

And it was really encouraging to see young women engaging and interested in political debate.

Congratulations to everyone at Belvedere!
