Joe Anderson 'laughing' at Liberal Democrats over Liverpool Direct Limited

By David Bartlett on Jul 1, 11 08:26 AM in Liverpool City Council

Liverpool council leader Joe Anderson has taken Liberal Democrat Flo Clucas to task over the 'bad deal' over Liverpool Direct Limited (LDL).

In a leaked email he tells Cllr Clucas that he's only just dried his eyes from laughing after reading her comments in the Daily Post that big questions needed to be asked over the deal.

Below is the full email:

Dear Cllr Clucas

Sorry for the late response to your comments in yesterdays Daily Post. I have only just managed to dry my eyes from the tears of laughter after reading them. I noted that you didn't turn up for the LDL Scrutiny Panel meeting on Monday to express your concerns or to the previous meetings.

The big questions that you suggest need to be asked about the refresh proposal as a result of you not turning up where never asked. Maybe you would be so kind as to do us the honour of turning up to today's Cabinet meeting to ask your big questions, or forward them on to me and I will ask them for You, as I am only to glad to assist.

The big questions may of course already have been asked certainly the most important ones have, l like who signed us up to such a bad deal in the first place? and of course, who accepted the cash for COC [Capital of Culture]? which of course was the previous Executive Board which you where on.

The deal which would have resulted in us paying back £30 million at least, now, while facing the most savage cuts the City has ever faced was as the DA said something that tied the hands of LCC. On considering the position you where in including you former colleagues who where Executive Board members no wonder you didn't turn up.

Best wishes

Cllr Joe Anderson

The really big question is why on earth the LibDems renewed this contract in 2006 without tackling any of the problems that were already horribly apparent. Perhaps Councillor Clucas should answer that before spouting off.
Jo Anderson mentioned this at the Cabinet meeting (I went to watch it). Paul Brant said he wrote to every single Lib Deb councillor inviting them to come and ask questions etc. Not a single one turned up.
So although some aspects of this deal are worrying, I believe that Labour have probably done the best they could with a situation that was emphatically not of their making.
Big questions indeed.

What makes Joe so wonderful, apart from the fact that he is Labour, is the fact that whilst in office he conducts himself so wonderfully, and with immense dignity. I like the way that neither he, not anyone linked to him, leaks these things.

And I particularly like the non-biased views of the Liverpool Post & Echo, and their journalists, on any political matters whatsoever.
