UK Green investment bank - We've Got to Be In It to Win It!
The UK Green Investment Bank is worth £3 billion, is one of the major policies of the coalition government, and it is anticipated that it will begin operating in April 2012 and I see no reason why we, here, in the Liverpool City Region should not be telling Government that the Green Bank should be based in Liverpool.
Whilst I recognise that Liverpool might not be a major Banking City, it is still a Major Financial City with strong representation from the likes of Rathbones and Rensburg headquartered here, as well as having a strong business financial infrastructure.
The creation of the Green Bank here in the Liverpool City Region would be a massive boost for the area, providing job creation and kudos especially with the loss of the Royal Liver after its merger with the Royal London.
Other cities together with businesses are mobilizing to make strong bids, we simply cannot be left behind. Wirral has a huge 'Green Energy' business and economy as can be witnessed by the recent Wirral Investment Network Awards, and together with the rest of Merseyside's strong environment and energy business base it must add to the strength of the bid and it's clear that we should all come together and formalize our bid.
The City Region's bid team must comprise of the leading political, academic, business and entrepreneurial minds in order to get the people of the Liverpool City Region behind this bid making it the only bid that would be supported by its people."
I have written to our Local Enterprise Partnership (LEP) asking for their support, and to Mark Prisk MP, Minister for Business extolling the virtues of our area. The Minister agreed Liverpool could be considered but as yet the only cities making representations are Edinburgh, Bristol and London.
Come on we must all get together, the bottom line is if were not in we cannot win it.

So you did away with Dale Street Blues, now it's The Esther McVey Blues?
Christ..
I heard Esther McVey on Radio Merseyside on Friday. She was attempting, in her usual patronising tone, to justify the cuts in public spending. To cap it all, she even suggested that people should be charged to attend the Beatles festival to try and offset cuts elsewhere. She didn't explain quite how this would work. Perhaps she had in mind a two mile steel cordon around the city centre? It was typical Esther McVey - opportunistic, ill thought out nonsense which does not stand up to any sensible scrutiny. Shame on those in West Wirral who elected her.
