Christmas and New Year
Christmas and New Year is a time for families and loved ones. It is a time to reflect on the year gone by, as well as to look forward to the forthcoming year.
It is a time for children and laughter, for recharging the 'old batteries' and seeing friends. It's also a time for thinking of those who have given up their Christmas to care for others, as well as remembering those who are less fortunate and in need of our care and support. Most importantly it's a time to reflect on the true meaning of Christmas, and here on Wirral we have wonderful church services where we can gather together to celebrate the message of Christmas, hope & joy.
In 2012 I'm looking forward to continue working with the Government on behalf of the people of Wirral, aiming to bring jobs and prosperity to Wirral and the wider Merseyside communities. Despite tough spending decisions, the Government has; taken 1 Million of the lowest earners out of paying income tax, is investing an extra £1B in the Regional Growth Fund to support business and 1£B in the Youth Contract to help young people find work as well as creating an extra 160,000 apprenticeships, and will continue to freeze council tax.
Finally and most importantly I believe our thoughts should be with our armed forces who are serving so bravely in Afghanistan and other areas of conflict around the world.
I wish everyone a very Merry Christmas and a happy and healthy New Year

Does the 1 million people taken out of tax include the 3/4 milion from the public sector who have been taken out of tax by virtue of the fact that they have also been taken out of employment?
Are those who are less fortunate and in need of our support there by virtue of the cuts to disability allowance and benefits and cut backs to the NHS and local government?
And as for those who care for others, would these by and large be from the much maligned public sector or the much vaunted private sector ?
