The One statistic on the Port of Liverpool that should concentrate minds
There is one set of figures which stands out for me from today's story about a new £200m road through the Rimrose Valley to the Port of Liverpool being back on the agenda.
At present 350 lorries enter or leave the port every hour, and 70% use the Dunnings Bridge Road route.
By 2030 that figure is set to more than double to 800 HGVs each hour.
Just think about that for a moment, 800 lorries an hour equals 13 every minute - or more than one every 10 seconds.
And 70% of lorries using the port use Dunnings Bridge Road in Bootle, imagine if you live on that route.
That one statistic should be enough to concentrate minds.
The port employs 3,000 people and has a much wider economic impact. If the region is serious about growing the port operation then the issue of congestion and traffic needs to be tackled sooner rather than later.
If you have got a while (a few hours) and fancy reading the Port Access study you can download part one here: PortOfLiverpoolStudy_1.pdf, and part two here: PortOfLiverpoolStudy_2.pdf.
Alternatively there is a non-technical summary which you can download here: Access_to_Port_of_Liverpool_Study_Non_Technical_Summary.pdf.

This was supposed to happen years ago before they built houses on drummond road in Thornton back in the early 80's and before they built the civil service club so its nothing new to the older residents
What about people like me that live by Rimrose Valley. Its ok for me and my family to have 800 HGVs each hour have a impact on my life my familys life.
David,i sense that you are not taking into consideration the countless number of lives this project if it gets the go ahead will destroy.Your report is very blinked and one sided in favour of Peel. You already state in your report the need for an alternative, yet you are jumping the "gun" as all the communities of,Ford,Pendle,Drummond rd estate,Great Crosby,Crosby, Litherland,Waterloo, and Seaforth whom border on the said proposed"New £2000m
Road" have not been consulted and not been invited to do so.This a case of the Echo knowing this is already a done deal and just like the Murdock Media Machine, are backing a winner? I hope that your paper gives all who may be affected a level playiing field and not the ill winds you have already begun to sound in your article.
and nothing about all the public money and hard work that's turned this former tip into an enjoyable place for locals to get some fresh air and a break from the traffic. What about the rail links? they were supposed to be putting in railtracks right to the rivers edge when they re-develope the Seaforth Dock for post-panamax sized ships destroying another bit of green space in south Sefton the Seaforth nature reserve. It's ok promising to make jobs but 400 were lost there only the other week, I sense it's already in the bag "This Sucks".
This ridiculous idea wont be given the go-ahead, how can it be justified to plough up a country park and create what will be a "mini motorway"!!!!! I have lived where I do for 17 years now and have noticed a great improvement in the area due to the intoduction of the park and the pleasure it gives to many.
