Liverpool mayoral candidates spending limit
Mayoral candidates in Liverpool will only be able to spend £21,242.
It may seem like a lot of money to some, but in campaigning terms it is a drop in the ocean.
Candidates are allowed to spend a basic amount of £2,363 and 5.9p per elector. There are about 320,000 registered electors in Liverpool.
Fears that mayoral candidates with deep pockets are going to be able to 'buy' their way into power are unfounded.
An independent coming at this with a standing start only able to spend £21,242 faces an uphill struggle to get their message out.
The spending ceiling is will benefit for current council leader Joe Anderson, who is currently front runner in the race to become elected mayor. It will give parties an in-built advantage because of the high number of 'volunteers' they can rely on.

Everyone in the City already knows that Joe Anderson is a candidate. Everyone also knows his platform and what he says he will bring to the role and so far his election monies have not been tapped.
The only voting will be for Joe Anderson / for Labour versus against Joe Anderson / against Labour.
The Aternative vote is limited to 2 candidates only ( who decided this ? )and with several alternatives to the front runner spliting the protest vote kind of takes the interest out of it.
