Michael Heseltine to get the Freedom of Liverpool
Michael Heseltine occupies a peculiar position in Liverpool politics of being a popular Conservative.
Margaret Thatcher is universally loathed, and it may be that Lord Heseltine is held in high esteem by people like Liverpool council leader Joe Anderson precisely because of Hezza's difficult relationship with Lady T.
But it is more than that. When others like Lord Howe were arguing for 'managed decline' for Liverpool, Lord Heseltine wanted investment. He successfully won the argument and the Albert Dock restoration and the Garden Festival projects then followed.
He has always been genuinely interested in the fate of Liverpool.

No bugger asked me if I want to vote for this. And I dont bloody want to. Very unhappy that the man is told of the proposed honour before we even discuss it in our group. What is the purpose of a back bencher, exactly?
I imagine he is just practicing for when he is mayor. Ne will not need to discuss anything with anyone then - at least not for 4 years.
