English Democrat Liverpool mayor candidate falls foul of the FA by using Three Lions on leaflet
A LIVERPOOL mayor candidate is to be given a dressing down by the Football Association for using the Three Lions in his election material.
English Democrat Paul Rimmer used the famous symbol in his address sent out in an official Liverpool council election leaflet.
A spokesman for the FA said: "We will be contacting the individual involved and ask them to refrain from using the logo."
Mr Rimmer insisted he had done nothing wrong.
"The Three Lions are an ancient 12th century symbol of the Holy Trinity.
"They belong to the ancient people of England not the FA."

The 3 lions is an historic symbol of England, this is why the FA use it. I would ask the FA why they have blue on the England kit when England is Red and white, they could use maroon if they wanted as the ancient 3 lion flag is 3 gold lions on a maroon back ground, the symbol is not the FA's.
Mr Rimmer is correct, this Emblem doesn't belong to a Football association, its like the England Rugby Union saying Labour can't use the Red Rose and is this so call English body going to have a go at English & Welsh Cricket team for using the 3 Lions.
Its time this body understood that they are English and should embrace any thing English and not use the Union National anthem, like the other home nations don't.
The FA should there own house in order first with the joke wembley stadium and all those dopey corporate boxes and consider the real "ENGLAND FANS" refrain from putting the ghastly colour blue in England football kit, like the shirts scarfes hats etc. Plaster the Cross of "ST GEORGE" Everywhere like any patriotic football association should do and the main thing is putting the name "ENGLAND or ENGLISH" before FA !
Surely the "ancient people of England" are the Welsh?
