Joe Anderson (sort of) starts to spell out his cabinet if he becomes Liverpool mayor

By David Bartlett on Apr 27, 12 10:02 AM in Liverpool Mayor

ann_o'byrne.jpgJoe Anderson has just presided over his last cabinet meeting as Liverpool council leader.

Baring any last minute upsets in a week's time he is likely to be starting the first hours of his four year term as Liverpool's first mayor.

There are rumours of a possible cabinet re-shuffle, but he is keeping his cards to his chest.

Well apart from telling Ann O'Byrne, cabinet member for housing and community safety, that her place is safe.

Cllr O'Byrne, who is tipped by some as a potential future leader of Labour in Liverpool, congratulated Cllr Anderson on his term as leader and reminded him that this today's cabinet meeting would be his last as leader.

He said: "Yes you're right, what ever happens this is my last cabinet as leader. If I am elected mayor your cabinet position is safe."

Cllr O'Byrne's seat may be as safe as houses, but whose isn't?

I'm betting on Nick Small getting the boot.

He does need a cabinet clear out. He's got a few people in there working against him.

I think Nick is safe it's Jane Corbett that should be very worried after the mess she has made of the children's centre review. Talk about clutching defeat from the gaws of victory! What a mess. Why did she allow hubs and spokes - more important- less important - what an absolute mess! The council have found a way to keep all the centres open which is amazing but because of people thinking they are clever it's turned into a nightmare for the council with protests up and down the city. Why is there no one with vision leading this. Joe step in and sort mate!

I think Nick Small is safe given the success of the apprentice scheme it's Jane Corbett that needs sorting given the mess made of the children's centre review. Talk about clutching defeat from the jaws of victory! Why did she allow spokes and hubs to go forward - first and second class centres- common sense says this was so stupid and a pointless exercise in alianating parents! Come on Joe step in and sort!

If this is an indication of his cabinet we're all doomed. What exacttly has this woman ever done?

Ann O'Byrne has been a great Cabinet Member for Housing & Community Safety. I have enjoyed sitting on her Committee for the past year.

There has been so fantastic work presented to us as a Committee, including the CitySafe Haven initiative & No Second Night Out homeless strategy.

Great work Ann!
