Liverpool has most candidates per ward in local elections
Liverpool has the most candidates per seat of any metropolitan council where a third of seats are being contested.
There is an average of 5.77 candidates per seat, and that even takes into account the fact the Liberal Democrats are not standing in five seats.
The stat was picked out by blogger Kristofer Keane, who can follow him on Twitter HERE.
Labour, the Conservatives, and the Green are contesting all seats. The Liberals are of course there in many seats.
UKIP have candidates on the ballot, as do the BNP, and a BNP offshoot the British Freedom Party. The English Democrats are standing in some seats too, the left wing Trade Union and Socialist Coalition.
Thriving local democracy or is the city just good at attracting the fringe parties? You decide.

Is this cos the Tories are non-existent and have been for 20 years? There seems to be a lot of new right wing candidates trying to fill that gap: UKIP, BNP, British Freedom, NF, Ind etc. As well as Radford and the Greens standing everywhere.
Yet clowns like Richard Kemp claim we're becoming a one-Party city. Clearly nonsense. The fact that citizens now prefer to vote in huge numbers for Labour candidates does not make Liverpool a 'one-party state'

You will find that there are 8 UKIP candidates, signifucantly higher than two years ago, two BNP, 5 EDP and no NF candidates. Lumping UKIP in with all the others, deliberately muddies the waters to give the false impression that UKIP are Far Right also.
This could not be further from the truth. You are deliberately trying to make UKIP guilty by association. (lummping them with the far right). UKIP is a centre right, Libetarian party open to all races and creeds.
UKIP has Jewish, Atheist,Catholic, and Protestant, candidates standing in the 2012 Liverpool local elections.
Two years ago, UKIP had no candidates in the local elections now they have 8. UKIP is growing, watch out.
