"We want this election to be as boring as possible"

"We want this election to be as boring as possible."

The words of a Labour insider about the Liverpool mayor election.

The party knows that any big rows or controversies play to the advantage of council leader Joe Anderson.

Labour know that Cllr Anderson is the frontrunner. He's presented a solid argument for why he should lead the city.

All they need to do is carry on knocking on doors, get their vote out, win the election.

So privately there is annoyance among Labour figures about the row that erupted last week about alleged censorship by council chief executive Ged Fitzgerald of political material in the official council booklet.

There has been three stories about the row. Not likely to damage Cllr Anderson that much, but it gives his rivals publicity.

So, if I read you correctly, the useless spineless unprincipled & opportunistic Labour 'insiders' are willing to sell the pass on blatant and questionably legal interference by Ged Fitzgerald in the democratic process in order to make the election 'boring'. Shameful. I can tell these wretched 'insiders' that there are plenty of Labour outsiders who are outraged that Joe Anderson has not taken the principled position and shown proper moral leadership by condemning the censorship of Radford's material. Same goes for Kemp & the others. The lot of them are beginning to look like dreary small-minded provincial numpties
