Liverpool Lib Dem deputy leader Tom Morrison's band The Stopouts prepare to launch debut album

By David Bartlett on Sep 3, 12 08:39 PM in Liberal Democrats

It's a little know fact that the deputy leader of the Liberal Democrats in Liverpool Tom Morrison is also the frontman for a punk/raggae/ska band.

When he's not pounding the streets of his Church ward for the Lib Dems Tom Morrison sings for The Stopouts.

They've done a few EPs before, but now they are preparing to launch their debut album.

The appropriately named Vote with Your Feet is out on September 17 (listen to a sample above).

HERE is a link to the band's older stuff on Soundcloud.

Kevin who? Is this the same Kevin White who stood for the LibDems in Wavertree at the last election? The same Kevin White who wants our votes, but won't put on his leaflets any method of contacting him other than the LibDem HQ postal address? Nah, must be a different Kevin White...

Kevin White said:

Trust Labourites to try and change the subject. Tom is a true talent who has a tremendous following among the young people of Liverpool, which is more than can be said for the Labour Party who introduced tuition fees.

Wavertree Warrior said:

So no comment on your lack of contact details (such as phone number or email address) on the printed materials you shove through my door, Kevin? Even the Conservative party leaflet at the last local election had an email address and mobile number.

Serious question: how are we expected to contact you to raise local issues (assuming you're still part of the Wavertree LibDem team)?

Not Surprised said:

Just another stooge of the Storey/Kemp clan, who will do anything to undermine true liberals for control; sadly Morrison has been sucked in. I wonder if he'll off his pop down south or to Europe when he gets stuffed in 2014? Kevin White........is this the same Kevin White who was expelled from the Liberal party for something that has remained under the radar (nudge nudge wink wink say no more)

Wavertree Warrior said:

Is that the sound of tumbleweed I can hear, Kevin?

You're putting yourself up to represent the citizens of Wavertree on behalf of the Lib Dems, so it's a fair enough question. How can people contact you? And why don't you put that contact information in the leaflets you put through the door? Of course, I could write to you at the Gregson, but I can't bring myself to write a letter, buy a stamp, and post it just so I can ask you how I can contact you.

By the way, the young people who follow Tom's band don't do it because of his politics, they do it because they like the music. Those same young people are more likely to vote Labour than LibDem following your party's broken pledge/promise (take your pick) not to raise tuition fees.

Kevin White said:

I have never been expelled from the Liberal Party, the Liberal Democrats or anything, but of course the Labour Party is adept at telling lies so I shouldn't be surprised by "not surprised"'s blatant lie in this thread. Pond life.

Wavertree Warrior said:

Kevin. I see you're replied to "not surprised". I'm assuming you just ran out of time and didn't get the chance to reply to me as well.

So, how can citizens of Wavertree like myself contact you? And why don't you put your contact details on your election leaflets?

Kevin White said:

The same as it always has been WW : kevinwhite4wavertree@gmail.com. And of course we have a well publicised Freepost address for me. Do please try and pay attention before commenting here.

Wavertree Warrior said:

Dear Kevin.

I asked a straightforward question, and really didn't expect a condescending answer. I have copies of your last three leaflets to come through my door and none of them has anything other than the postal address for Lib Dem HQ. Your reply above is the first time I've ever seen your email address. My LibDem councillor didn't even know how to contact you when she was asked. Thank you for providing it at the fourth time of asking.

My other question was asking why email address and phone number were missing from your leaflets. Maybe you're the one who should be paying more attention.

Kevin White said:

Well I should point out WW that I have received a great many complaints from Wavertree residents about the multiple failings of the Labour administration by way of various methods of communication. Of course, if you have a problem I am only too pleased to try and help you, either as a first port of call or where your Labour councillors can't.

Wavertree Warrior said:

The original reason I wanted to contact you, Kevin, was to ask you about the section on your election flyer entitled "An honest choice. Kevin or Labour" in which the 'Opinion Latest!' poll had Labour on 41%, Kevin White on 37%, and the Conservatives on 5%.

Where did you get the figures from? They look like they've been invented, particularly given that they fail to give any mention of Warren Bradley standing as an Independent. The figures are even more laughable given that the previous election had Lab 51% & LibDem 32%. Your 'opinion latest' (didn't *anyone* tell you they were voting for Warren?) as a prediction was wide of the mark given that Labour won with 48%, Warren was 2nd with 29%, and you only won 9% of the vote. 9% is a very long way off your 37% on the leaflet.

By the way, the leaflet in question didn't have any way to contact you other than the 'promoted by' address, which was not shown as a freepost address.

Kevin White said:

Clearly some people were embarrassed to admit they were voting for Bradley and this distorted the returns. Can Labour explain how they put the LibDem vote in Woolton @ 9% in their pre-election leaflets when their canvass returns showed the LibDem vote still running strongly ?

Wavertree Warrior said:

Although you didn't say directly, I take it that the figures in the 'Opinion Latest' were from asking people on the doorsteps. In which case, I find it really, really hard to believe you didn't find anyone willing to say that they were going to vote for Warren.

What's more worrying from the LibDem point of view is that your 'survey' suggested that 37% of people were going to vote for you when, in effect, on 9% of people did. Isn't it time we knocked these types of loaded, inaccurate surveys on the head and stick to quoting results of previous elections?

I get the distinct impression that you're trying to deflect my questions given that every answer seems to be followed by a comment about Labour. If you want to know what Labour can or cannot explain I suggest you ask them directly.

Warren Bradley said:

The Liberal Democrats in campaigns run by Storey and his 'troops' (Rennard, Eldridge and latterly Morrison) have always told untruths about canvass figures. The truth is they never knocked on enough doors to find out, the doors they did knock on where in their strong areas, so they were always wide of the mark. Supposedly a good marketing tool to treat the electorate like zombies! I don't think Kevin White knows where Wavertree ward starts and finishes as the picture of him knocking on a door in his leaflet was infact in Greenbank ward, at the party HQ.......need I say anymore, White did incredibly well getting 9% of the vote, he deserved null!!!!

Kevin White said:

Ah, Yesterday's Man speaks.

Ronnie de Ramper said:

Nine percent. An interesting number. It's the likely LibDem general election vote according to recent opinion polls. It's roughly the proportion of seats currently held by Lib Dems on the City Council. It's half as much again as Richard Kemp's Mayoral vote. And it's a colossal 9% higher than the share of the vote Sharon Green will attract in St Michael's next year.

Wavertree Warrior said:

I voted LibDem/SDP at every single local and national election since the age of 18. That stopped after the last general election when the national party sold us down the river and jumped into bed with the Tories.

Broken promises (sorry, pledges) over tuition fees, a grossly unfair settlement that saw Liverpool's finances decimated, support for the awful NHS bill, etc, etc... I'm a liberal social democrat at heart and for the life of me can't see any of the ideals that I believe in coming from the current government. Locally the LibDems have suffered because they are THE SAME PARTY, a message that Warren was willing to stand up and shout out, and one which ultimately lost him his seat. Whatever mistakes Warren may have made in the past (we all make mistakes, don't we?), never let it be said that he didn't stand by his principles.

The other reason I ditched the LibDems locally after 2010 was due to their dreadful local and national election campaigns here in Wavertree. Instead of concentrating on the real issues that matter to the voters, leaflet after leaflet instead contained personal attacks and jibes against the Labour candidates. This happened against Luciana Berger in 2010, and the mistakes were repeated against Jake Morrison in 2011. Lessons were not learned, and the public weren't fooled. The irony is that Tom Morrison, frontman for The Stopouts, was agent and campaign manager on both occasions. Maybe he should stick to music instead of politics.

Then along comes 2012 and we're faced with a LibDem candidate who doesn't want anyone to contact him directly (where's your mobile number? where's your email address?), whose canvassing photo is taken from the doorway of the Gregson HQ inthe neighbouring ward, whose photo of a 'missed collection' wheelie bin is taken outside LibDem Cllr Rosie Jollie's house, and whose 'opinion latest' poll is totally fictitious and misleading. Not only this (as if it wasn't enough), when asked direct questions here on this forum he ignores and deflects in exactly the way that gives politicians a bad name and puts them off voting.

I am the type of person who the LibDems need to win back if they've any hope of changing their fortunes locally and nationally. And at the moment both the national party and the local party are failing miserably.

Ronnie de Ramper said:

Top forensic rant there, WW. Maybe Tom Morrison should rename his band The Sell Outs

Louise Baldock said:

And the penny drops....
Not so much WW as WB

For what it is worth, the only person in the Labour Party who knows or cares who Kevin White is, is me. And that is only because he perjured himself once in a fanciful complaint about me, years ago. Please don't imagine that any other single LP member has ever allowed him to cross their mind. He is an abject failure at the ballot box and so the idea that any LP member would be writing entries on blogs, of this nature, about this man, are completely impossible.

An interesting observation, with that in mind, it will be interesting for anoraks to go back and see what else WW has written.

Wavertree Warrior said:

What? Kevin "The Honest Choice For Wavertree" White purjured himself in a complaint against you? Surely not the same Kevin White who wrote in one leaflet "VOTERS BEWARE! Residents were shocked to learn that the Independent candidate at this election was recently convicted of the criminal offence of perjury."? (Anyone else think that read like an excerpt from Private Eye?)

Anyway, there isn't a local election until Cllr Rosie Jolly has to defend her seat in 2014, so maybe Kevin will be taking a back seat until 2015. Can I be the first to wish him good luck standing against the outstanding Cllr Jake Morrison, who is more visible in any one month than Cllr Jolly has been in the whole time since she was elected.

Finally, thanks for making me smile this evening, Louise! For a moment I thought you were suggesting that I was really Warren! How very dare you!

Right said:

Of Course WW is Warren Bradley.

Kevin White said:

I believe the incident to which Ms.Buldock refers is the one during the Newsham Park festival when she was heard by several people to use foul and abusive language at a family event. I suggest she also looks up the meaning of the word "perjury" because she clearly doesn't understand what it means.

Wavertree Warrior said:

Please pay attention, Right said.

WW is Wavertree Warrior

WB is Warren Bradley

It's not difficult. The fact that we're never seen in the same place at the same time is irrelevant, and totally coincidental...

While we're playing the Looking Up Words game, [World English Dictionary] 'honest (adj) - not false or misleading'. Who thinks the 'Opinion latest' poll was not false or misleading? I've just canvassed my house to ask this question, and since there's only me in at the moment (the cat isn't eligible to vote) the result was somewhat conclusive.

Louise Baldock said:

Kevin, I used the word perjury because you lied on tape, during an official investigation carried out by a civil servant in a formal legal role covered by statute. Your contribution was proven to be a lie at the time with evidence produced that contradicted your version of events. If you prefer another word feel free to use that: "deception" and "falsehood" perhaps? You may wish to know, before you push along this road, that your co-conspirators admitted to their actions and apologised to me unreservedly several years ago and I made my peace with them.

Otherwise, sorry for hijacking the end of this piece about Tom's musical performance. Good luck to him, it is good to see people have interests outside of the council.

Kevin White said:

I most certainly did not lie on tape. I told the truth at the investigation into your disgraceful behaviour. You were foul mouthed and should have been ashamed of yourself with children about. Please make any such tape available to Mr.Bartlett.

And how did Kevin White decieve the investigation?
And if there was no negative outcome for you, why persist with it?

Kevin White said:

Give Mr.Bartlett this tape.

Wavertree Warrior said:

Surely it's the civil servant who carried out the investigation who has the tape, not Louise? I'm confused...

Knotted Ash said:

Louise, what was the wording of the unreserved apology given to you by Tom Morrison?

Whilst I have no doubt that took place, it hardly suits the Tucker-esque image Tom would like to project, and abjectly fails at.

neither WW or WB said:

Unusually, i'm happy to admit Warren Bradley is spot on in his observations on the campaign misery created around Storey in 2011. It was as if all lessons from 2012 went totally ignored.

The overt, personal attacks - only to backfire.
The lack-lustre literature. Etc etc.

And this is supposed to be about the merit's of Morrison's single.

What a legacy.

Simples Things In Life said:

Kevin White, why lie about Louise Baldock?

Kevin White said:

Indeed, I had no reason to lie and I did not. She should have been ashamed of herself for her foul mouthed rant at what should have been a happy day out for local people. She still owes the public an apology.

So... what's the point in a 'Report This Comment' function if the spam message you're reporting never gets removed...?

Of The West said:

Dear Mr. Bartlett,
why do you think Cllr. Baldock hasn't answered the criticism leveled at her?

Ronnie de Ramper said:

Because she's as bored as the rest of us with this squabble-thread. Enough, surely. It may be the most 'commented on'; it certainly isn't the most rewarding to read.

Louise Baldock said:

I have just got back from doing some useful work with local government leaders, so I am sorry if I was not here to respond to Mr White who one presumes has more time on his hands than I do.

I have nothing much more to say on the subject than I have said before. I was accused by Mr White and some of his LibDem chums several long years ago of certain behaviour.

This accusation which they made formally and officially was thoroughly investigated at the time at great expense and involved the interviewing on tape of around 8 or 9 people by trained LCC investigators. They officially concluded that it was most likely in their view that the incident was fictitious, this because the accusers did not have their stories straight and were not sure what it was they were each accusing me of, whereas I was able to produce lots of crucially independent witnesses who were very clear about the real version of events.

The investigators were right. This was merely designed to unsettle and disrupt a leading Labour campaigner with an eye on the General election which would be due in the future. I was also someone that at the time, these accusers did not know, and all bar one had never spoken to me. They imagined me to be a person very different than I am - something they would now confirm I am sure. Mr White of course still hasn't met me and therefore is able to persist with his vendetta.

It all happened a long time ago in a different political environment and we ought to have all moved on. I regret mentioning it above and rattling this particular cage, it is something I have really tried to put behind me because it was bewildering and hurtful. As I said above I have made my peace with two of the others after accepting their apologies several years ago.

If Mr White does not like what I have said about him then he is of course free to sue because I do not intend to retract my comments. He should be aware however that he will find little support from his own party for such a course of action and would be unwise to imagine he could rely upon his previous co-conspirators to any longer repeat their stories, assuming they could remember them any better now than they could on tape.

I consider this matter at an end. I suggest he does too.

Kevin White said:

Ms.Baldock you are either in denial or deliberately telling a lie. Which is it ? I was there, I heard you and I was shocked. Be grown up and own up.

Wavertree Warrior said:

Kevin, you may well have heard what you heard, and you may well have been shocked, but what I can't understand is why you're bringing it up again after so long.

Do you deny there was a formal and official complaint made?

Do you deny there was an official LCC investigation?

Do you deny that the investigation cleared Louise?

Kevin White said:

WW, may I suggest you re-read this thread. The Newsham Park Affair was resurrected on Sept 10th by Ms.Baldock in which she outrageously accused me of perjuring myself. You can't seriously think I'm going to let her get away with such a monstrously untrue statement.

Wavertree Warrior said:

Kevin,

Also waiting for Kevin to answer the questions. He was quick to have a go at Louise when she didn't answer his questions quickly, but he's not so quick to answer questions directed at him. In fact, if you look back at this thread you'll see how often he's been asked a direct question only to use the tired old politicians' trick of ignoring it and instead replying with a side swipe at the opposition.

And can someone tell me what a Wuzzier is? I'm thinking it's some sort of puerile larvae...

So, why do you keep asking Louise to release the tape? What makes you think she has her own copy?

And thank you for proving my previous point by ignoring the direct questions and replying with an attack on the opposition. To save you the bother of scrolling back up, for the third time here are the questions....
