Sad news that former Liverpool councillor Chris Newby has died in Cambodia after suffering a heart attack.

I never met Chris as he stood down from the council the year I joined the Post and Echo.

Colleagues here in the office have nothing but warm words for him, and looking through the cuttings I could tell he was a good laugh.

For example on his wedding day he hired a helicopter to fly his wife Alana to the Palm House in Sefton Park. Very romantic and a lovely touch.
