Liverpool Mayor Joe Anderson's increased Twitter activity

joe_anderson_twitter[1].jpgLiverpool politicos may have noticed increased activity on Joe Anderson's Twitter feed in recent weeks.

It would appear to be a deliberate policy to promote and show how active the mayor is. And it seems to be paying dividends, @joeforliverpool handle now has more than 5,000 followers - only 3,000 behind the council's own Twitter feed.

In the last 24 hours he has broken the news of his train ticket offer to Eric Pickles on Twitter, lamented the demise of investigative journalism, and announced his visit to the launch Riverside Credit Unions Start Up Loan scheme on Twitter.

You can check out his Twitter feed HERE.

I share Joe's concerns for the demise of investigative journalism. So let's have a major investigation onto why Liverpool Direct are still unaccountable and not affected by any of the cuts to services and still don't give the council access to open accounts or a penny from their outside contracts in which the city is supposed to be a joint venture partner. Isn;t Liam Foggarty now on the board? He must have something to say by now. Full oublic inquiry and audit and release of all the reports please. £60+ million a year and new costs for IT equipment which last time was charged at three times the high st price and subject to a £2,000 annula maintenance charge for every computer. So why no cuts to LDL?

How strange for Joe to be concerned about investigative journalism, when he goes totally ape and threatens to withdraw advertising if there's any leaks or anything remotely critical of LDL in the press.
But it would be absolutely brilliant if some "independent TV producers/accountants" really are willing to spend time here scrutinising our finances - together, ideally, so they can't bury the results if they don't like them as they've always done in the past. Someone certainly needs to, as the Doctor makes clear.
Especially since the select committees and scrutiny panels that tried to do this properly have all been muzzled/sidelined.
Allowing them to do their job properly would be a start - and that means a lot more than a single secret presentation about how wonderful LDL is (although this will have been because McElhinney wanted it like that, I suspect).
Not what Anderson promised us or the District Auditor. Not what Ernst & Young recommended either. So roll on the independent accountants - forensic ones, ideally.
