Top five cancelled sci fi shows part three - Now and Again
Over half way through now, see if you agree with this one.
Now and Again was a cracking little show which was axed after just one season.
It was the story of Michael Wiseman (John Goodman) who is killed in a tragic subway accident. But Michael's death is just the beginning, as he is to become the subject of a secret Government experiment to create the perfect human body. All that was needed to complete the project was a brain and Michael is about to become the donor.
And so Michael wakes up and discovers that not only is he not dead, but he has been transformed from an overweight family man into a genetically bio-engineered superhuman (Eric Close).
He is kept in a luxury apartment, where he is trained in the ways of international espionage by government experts under the watchful eye of Dr Theodore Morris (Dennis Haysbert).
Despite being told he risks the death penalty if he re-establish contact with anyone from his past life, including the much-loved wife Lisa (Margaret Colin) and daughter Heather (Heather Matarazzo) he left behind.
Unable to forget his family, Michael uses his new learned skills to slip through the net and meets his wife who he decides must remain unaware of his true identity.
But as this new 'friend' comes into their lives, Lisa and Heather begin to discover there is more than meets the eye to the accident which claimed Michael's life.
The show, sold as an action comedy, quickly built a strong fanbase after it first aired on CBS in America on September 24 1999. But after just 22 episodes, the network pulled the plug claiming the show was unjustifiable expensive to produce.
The shows two stars, Eric Close and Dennis Haysbert, both went on to make their names in long running TV shows Dennis Haysbert in 24 and The Unit and Eric Close in Without a Trace.
Unbelievably in this day and age Now and Again has never been released on DVD either in the US or the UK.
