Comic Con 2009- second day reviewed
Day two has come and gone at San Diego's Convention Centre. As the lucky attendees get some shut eye in preparation for day three, Geekworld takes a look at the last 12 hours to bring you the news that matters.
And first up is Toy Story 3! The gang's back and this time will be joined by Michael Keaton (you just don't see enough of him these days!)
Walt Disney'/Pixar animation panel started off the day with some shots from Toy Story and Toy Story 2, which as we speak are being turned into glorious 3-D. The two will be re-released as a double feature at an IMAX near you in October.

But back to Toy Story 3. Keaton will give his voice to Barbie's long suffering partner Ken. Pixar have been working on the third part of the Toy Story trilogy for three years now and director Lee Unkrich said the all the voice tracks have now been recorded .
He said: "We've spent three years working on it; we've got about 10 months to go. We've done 80,000 storyboards, recorded all the voices and it's about a quarter animated."
But Unkrich was tight-lipped as to the storyline, saying only that the writers had gone on a 'cabin retreat' to come up with a third, more emotional, adventure for our favourite toys.
The audience was then treated to a teaser trailer for the film, which is set for release in June 2010.

There was also a glimpse of Disney's Beauty and the Beast which, in keeping with the current trend, is currently being re-rendered into 3-D - spotting a bit of a theme here. The movie is set to be re-released on Valentine's Day next year.
Moving away from animation and over to the Warner Brothers panel, where
Gary Oldman let slip some news about the next Batman movie. The star was chatting about his upcoming movie The Book of Eli, when one cheeky hack asked when the next Batman flick would be out.
Without missing a beat, Oldman said: ""I think the next Batman is next year. We start shooting next year for a release in two years." Then laughing added: "You didn't hear that from me." Cue the audience goes wild!

We've seen the trailers (if you haven't, click here!), but what does Robert Downey Jr think about Sherlock Holmes? The star took to the stage after footage from the film was shown to a waiting audience.
He revealed that he had gone back to Arthur Conan Doyle's original texts to an attempt to add authentic lines to the script. He said: "'It's tough to make bricks without clay.' There's a million of them; they're the best lines to say.
"I really think Doyle was an amazing writer and storyteller. I didn't quite know how great he was until we kept reaching out to find quotes, things he said, descriptions, really more philosophical points of view Doyle used through Watson and Holmes."
The Guy Richie directed movie has come in for some criticism, not least because many of the Baker Street charters are missing (Mrs Hudson makes a brief appearance apparently!) One of the film's producers, Susan Downey (and Robert's wife BTW) insisted Sherlock Holmes has "a narrative unique to the movie." we'll find out when it opens on Christmas Day.

After Thursday's poster release it was time for Jonah Hex to get a brief screening, much to the delight of fans (although Megan Fox's appearance on stage may have had more to do with that!) The teaser trailer shows something more akin to a spaghetti western than an action movie, with Josh Brolin looking every inch the disfigured mythological cowboy. The film is due for release August 2010.

Then there was news from the horror movie front, with Jackie Earle Haley (Rorschach in Watchmen) pulling on the famous red and black stripped sweater of Freddy Krueger. Fans have already been given a tantalising glimpse of Haley as Kruger with a screen shot released earlier his week.
But director Samuel Bayer and producers Brad Fuller and Andrew Form brought some film footage with them to Comic Con and showed it off to a near capacity crowd. Shooting on the set of the Elm Street reboot ended just a few weeks ago, but there was enough completed footage for the short teaser trailer which got everyone foaming at the mouth.
Afterwards the panellists stressed the movie is not a remake nor is it (shudder) an origin story. From the short footage shown, it's fairly obvious we'll get to see the circumstances leading to Freddy's demise and eventual return. And the panellists also put paid to the rumour that the original Freddy, Robert Englund will have a cameo in the new film, but they said he does support it. The movie opens April 2010.
Other quick news worth a mention includes the announcement that Dominic Monaghan (Charlie in Lost) is joining the cast of a new sci-fi drama called Flash Forward. The series is loosely based on the Robert J Sawyer sci-fi novel. The series tells the tale of what happens when the world's population gets a glimpse of its future, forcing people to get to grips with whether their destinies can be fulfilled or changed.

There was news from the world of Stargate (like we need another series.) This latest outing, Stargate Universe stars Robert Carlyle and Ming-Na (from ER) and has already been dubbed Stargate Voyager in some quarters.
But that didn't stop the fans going crazy when shown a trailer (check it out below) for the series which airs (in the US) in October.
See you tomorrow!
