Batman - the greatest superhero ever?
The survey results are in and Batman has been declared the greatest superhero - OF ALL TIME!
The Caped Crusader was voted ahead of Spider-Man and forced Superman into third place.
Batman, who has continually been reinvented over the years, was voted the nation's favourite super hero in a survey of sci-fi fans by website SFX.co.uk.
Batman was created by Bob Kane and Bill Finger and made his comic debut in May 1939.
The Dark Knight and his alter-ego, billionaire playboy Bruce Wayne, was immortalised in the camp 1960s TV series played by Adam West.
The cahracter has since gone on to become a multi-million pound movie franchise thanks first to Tim Burton and Michael Keaton and laterly by Christopher Nolan and Christian Bale.
There have also been several computer games, the most recent of which - Batman: Arkham Asylum - came out just last week (and has already been played to death by Mr M!)
Dave Golder, editor of SFX.co.uk, said: "No matter how often he's reinvented - a noir detective in the 40s, a camp icon in the 60s, a gothic Knight in the 80s - he's always the coolest, most iconic and recognisable superhero there is."
Marvel Comics characters snatched seven of the top 10 positions, leaving DC Comics with just three.
The top 10:
1. Batman
2. Spider-Man
3. Superman
4. Wolverine
5. Iron Man
6. Green Lantern
7. Captain Britain

8. Deadpool
9. Daredevil
10. Hulk
