IRON MAN

And so to the man of the hour.
Global industrialist, weapons genius, playboy and star of the hottest film of 2010 - Geekworld's Christmas number 1 is Iron Man.

The result of a collaboration between Stan Lee, Larry Lieber, Don Heck and Jack Kirby, Tony Stark aka Iron Man, made his debut in Tales of Suspense in 1963. Iron Man.jpg
Stark was a very different superhero. He was the quintessential capitalist, sitting on a fortune amassed by his family's weapons company.
While watching a test fire of one of his new weapons, Stark is caught in a booby trap and mortally wounded by shrapnel.
Now a prisoner of war, Stark's fellow captive - Ho Yinsen, a Nobel Prize-winning physicist - creates a magnetic chest plate which stops the shrapnel from killing him.
Forced to build weapons for his captives, Stark and Yinsen begin working on the ultimate weapon - a powered suit of armour which he uses to escape.
The cover story for Iron Man is that he is Stark's bodyguard and later his company's mascot.
The writers of Iron Man have never shied away from hard hitting storylines.
Demon in a Bottle chronicles Stark's battle with alcoholism. After his heart condition is discovered by the public, he undergoes surgery to have an artificial heart transplant.
During his recuperation he discovers that the national security agency S.H.I.E.L.D has been buying a controlling interest in his company to ensure that Stark will continue to develop weapons for them.
Stark burys his worries in the bottle and it is only with the support of his friends and employees he manages to give up the drink and return to normal duties.
Some time later Obadiah Stane manipulates Stark into a serious relapse. As a result he loses control of Stark International, becomes a homeless alcoholic vagrant and gives up Iron Man to his best friend James Rhodes.
Eventually, Stark recovers and joins a new startup, Circuits Maximus.
As with all other Marvel characters Iron Man has appeared in several comic events including Civil War, Marvel Zombies, Marvel 1602 and House of M.
Iron Man 2 hits our screens in May, catch the new trailer below.
