Spider-Man 4 canned by Sony

By Cheryl Mullin on Jan 12, 10 09:25 AM

It was announced last night that Sony has shelved plans for Spidey 4 and will in fact be looking to reboot the franchise in 2012.

Rumours had dogged the fledgling production from day one, with Sam Raimi said to be at loggerheads with the studio over the movie's direction. Spider-Man.jpg
With Sony pushing for a 2011 release, Raimi had concerns that it was too short notice to get a good script together and has walked away from the project.
Tobey Maguire has also exited the franchise.
Last night Sony issued a press release saying it would be pushing ahead with a script from James Vanderbilt.
It also revealed the next Spider-Man movie would be a reboot, returning to Peter Parker's 'roots' ie, Spidey in high school.
Matt Tolmach, president of Columbia Pictures said: "Now everything begins anew, and that's got us all tremendously excited about what comes next."
Hopefully it will be better than Spider-Man 3.
