Vader costume fails to sell at auction
It should have been a sure fire sale, but an original Darth Vader costume from The Empire Strikes Back failed to make its reserve at a Christie's auction today.
Christie's Popular Culture: Film and Entertainment sale at their London auction house saw collectors bidding on props from films such as Life of Brian, The Sting, The Spy Who Loved Me and Raiders of the Lost Ark.
A script from Return of the Jedi, marked 'Revenge of the Jedi' sold for £1,000 while a collection of five Xerox copies of costume drawings from The Empire Strikes Back sold for just over £1,500.
But the costume worn by Dave Prowse for VI Star Wars outing failed to attract bids over £150,000 - meaning it did not sell.
The unnamed owner, who apparently suffers from an extreme case of obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), had purchased the costume as a way of controlling his condition which was taking over his life.
