GFW: checking out the competition

By Laura Davis on Jun 10, 08 12:00 PM

GFW-2.jpgDay two at Graduate Fashion Week and JMU student Genette Williams shares her experiences:

TODAY was the start of the official nomination award nominees judging works which created a stir. Scouts and directors were hunting out the graduates with the coolest work and the Prime Minister's wife also arrived today.

GFW-1.jpgThe atmosphere was electric with booming music from the catwalk shows, and the visitors' excitement was palpable. But in the end the day came to a close very fast.

The trade shows consisted of few garments but great artwork, promotion, and marketing. I found some gorgeous shoe designs which reminded me of Irregular Choice shoes that are available at Schuh in liverpool.

Students are mainly wearing vintage without any creativity, such as long line green skirts with womanly floral swimming costumes.

It may seem that people are in competition but we are just proud to be a part of a university which has a great reputation. We had a few previous students who came along to see our work... which was pretty exciting, and great to learn how our course has evolved and where people have taken their careers.
