My personal red carpet massacre

By Laura Davis on Jul 9, 08 10:40 AM

le bon.jpgIT'S been a long time since anyone called me shy and I didn't expect to ever hear it from Simon Le Bon.

Meeting him and the rest of Duran Duran backstage at the Summer Pops on Saturday, with culture blogger Catherine Jones, I struggled to find anything to say to him.

Unable to voice the thoughts in my mind ("Isn't this awkward", "You're not as fat as you look on photos") and finding it impossible to think of small talk that wouldn't make me sound like a potential stalker ("Are you going out after the show?") I just smiled up at him like a lovestruck fan.

"You're shy aren't you. That's okay, I am too sometimes," he told me before returning to his dressing room presumaby to chew on a couple of the sprouting mung beans that were on the band's rider.

Neither shy nor lovestruck - just deeply, humiliatingly embarrassed.
