Fooled By the Beauty Tricksters

By Emma Pinch on Aug 28, 08 08:00 AM

jolie.jpgAH another book struffed full of quick fix beauty tricks, this time courtesy of stylist to the stars, Hannah Sandling.

Run out of hair conditioner? Try the fabric kind.

No time to go to the hairdresser? Just grab a tube of facial bleach and stroke through with a toothbrush.

Fancy a Jolie-esque pout? Fresh chilli on a toothbrush scoured into the lips (Note to self: wash off bleach bleach first).

I ran foul of home-spun beauty tricks a long time ago. I'd regularly spend Friday night in front of Dynasty with egg-yolk dripping from my chin, stinking of salt and vinegar (protein face pack, vinegar hair rinse, not my tea).

I've also tried the old wives' trick beer on my hair. Whatever residual shininess resulted - and the vinegar was quite effective - the beauty benefits were undermined by the smell of stale brewery which wafted forth whenever I flirtatiously swung my hair. Not attractive at any time of the day.

It wasn't long before I discovered the joys of Costcutter. Just 49p of your pocket money for a Wella Shader and Toner and 29p for a startlingly green cucumber facepack. Give me sweet-smelling chemicals every time.
