Top winter hair trends from one who knows...
.
WANT super-sexy stylish hair this season? Well Jayne Mahon, creative director at Andrew Collinge on Liverpool's Castle Street and 2008 British Hairdressing Awards North West nominee has got some top tips for you
To fend off miserable thoughts of penny pinching and credit crunching, Jayne advises a style which oozes quality.
"Whatever style you go for this winter, it should be skilfully created and beautifully finished - this is essential for a shape that lasts and can be maintained at home with good quality products that suit your budget."
Here Jayne shares her styles for the season:
Sharp cuts
Sharp, geometric pudding-bowl cuts will be a key look this season and should be shaped into the nape so that hair falls forward into a heavy fringe. To style this futuristic look perfectly, blow dry using a medium round brush to give a bevelled finish which emphasises the shape. It's a versatile style that can also be worn slightly longer - reminiscent of the page boy look.
Jayne's tip: This style needs an ultra gloss finish - my trick is to spray a very fine mist of 'Heat Defence Get the Gloss Shine Spray' over freshly dried hair and blow dry again using a round brush while directing the nozzle of the dryer over the brush parallel to the hair for a sleek, flawless finish.
Big hair
Big hair is big news for those with longer locks. To create full volume roots to ends, set the hair on large Velcro rollers while hair cools after blow drying with 'Weightless Volume Mousse'. Release and gently back comb all the roots to let the hair stand away from the head, concentrating a little more back combing around the crown area. Gently smooth the top sections with a paddle brush, gather the side sections and secure them at the back just below the crown to create a mini beehive feel. Leave a few sections around the face loose to frame the style.
Jayne's tip: A full smooth fringe will give this big 60s feel hair a more modern twist.
Fringes
The fringe is still a hot look when teamed with shoulder length hair and I love the late 50s/early 60s retro feel. To get this sexy look, blow dry the fringe on a medium round brush creating a full, smooth look. Blow dry the rest of the hair also on a 'round' and to achieve the best (or a real catwalk inspired) look, set hair on medium-sized Velcro rollers. Apply a mist of hairspray to the fringe and rest of hair, diffuse for 5 minutes and release rollers for a truly voluminous, luxurious result."
Jayne's tip: A little gentle back combing at the crown will achieve that glam Jackie O look.
