MTV red carpet - a verdict
THEY may have been battling it out to take home the music awards but the stars also waged a fashion war on the red carpet.
Here are my style highs and frocky horrors from the EMAs...
THE GOOD

Estelle
R'n'b queen Estelle looks effortlessly cool here. This minidress is very on-trend, the pockets create a strong silhouette and the metallic colour looks great against her skin.

Katy Perry
Katy got through more costume changes than any other presenter but I loved her red carpet number from Jean Charles de Castelbajac best. It ensured all eyes were on her. She looked stunning and the slinky satin worked magnificently with her trademark 40s look.

Leona Lewis
Leona plays a bit safe in this Marchesa gown, after all they are the go-to designers for the red carpet and this is their signature girly style. She left it a bit last minute though, only buying the dress yesterday afternoon from Cricket. It would have been nice to see her being a bit more adventurous but she looks sweet.

Beyonce
Her stage outfit a few minutes later made her look like the Michelin Man but Beyonce was bootylicious as she walked the red carpet in this dress by hip Brit designer Gareth Pugh. Much cooler than the looks we usually see from Queen B. Not sure about the cyborg glove though.
THE BAD

Duffy
Normally I love the Welsh songstress' retro style but oh dear. Apparently Duffy's mum made her dress so maybe she didn't have the heart not to wear it but it looks like she stuck some sparkly wrapping paper to her nightie and headed out. The air hostess shoes are pretty dodgy too.

Pink
I love Pink but this ballgown looks like a dry-clean only bridesmaid dress that someone put on the spin cycle. She would have looked fabulous in something edgier. And the outfit she wore to receive her award made her look like a bank clerk (see above).
THE UGLY

Tokio Hotel
What is going on here exactly with these German emo rockers? Talk about big hair. Not a look I see catching on in Liverpool any time soon. And his pal looks like he has sneaked out in his big brother's clothes.
