THIS week we have a guest blogger, Claire Hamilton from Radio Merseyside, who is known for her stylish wardrobe and eye for a vintage bargain. Last week she hosted a Clothes Swap event at Sefton Park Palm House.

Over to Claire...

WELL I am still recovering from the chaos (organised of course) which was the clothes swap I hosted at Liverpool's gorgeous Palm House. My best friend and co-swapette Bronwen quickly got over her phobia of sorting through other people's clothes to get stuck up to her elbows in bags of clobber.

Some of the stuff was amazing - brand new with tags on. Needless to say, it didn't stay on the rails for long! There were about 130 ladies there in total - and I should say a big thank you to Hannah Vose and the other Palm House staff for their energy and enthusiasm.

It was incredibly tiring - and at times we struggled to stop elements of the jumble sale creeping in, but everyone seemed to go home with a smile on their face, if not a bag of stuff under their arm.

I didn't actually manage to get anything - apart from a sparkly blue vintage summer dress. I think teamed with a belt it'll look great.

I think you have to use your imagination when clothes-swapping. Often it takes someone else to pick out a dress, skirt or top and say 'ooh, this would suit you if only you made it smaller'. Luckily my friend Judith is a professional seamstress, and she always helps me realise my visions for gold 50s prom dresses, cute vintage skirts and coats which I always acquire in the wrong size!

I think for the next swap we will have to introduce more quality control - as it never fails to amaze me the rubbish some people bring along, expecting to get rid of it! I think a limit on the number of items might be a good idea. Watch this space.

The next one is in May. Oh, and in case you're wondering what I chose to wear to the event itself - well, I couldn't resist but wear a dress I had made all by myself (well, nearly).
