Joan Collins' tip for getting through the recession? Apply some red lippy

We may be going through one of the worst recessions for generations but, according to Joan Collins, that doesn't mean we should let our appearances go the same way as a our dwindling bank balances.
The Dynasty star believes women can cheer themselves up by simply applying a bit of lippy. And it seems as if we're following her lead.
Sales of high-end cosmetics are surging with women taking a cue from the 1940s when everything was rationed but women still went out of their way to look attractive by scrunching their hair in rags and always wearing red lipstick.

It seems the younger generation are taking some tips from the glamourpuss with stars such as Cheryl Cole and Scarlett Johansson ditching the boring pale pinks and beiges in favour of striking red.
As our Joanie says: "I believe that 90 per cent of women can look prettier, healthier and happier in red lipstick, the only disadvantage being that it can leave a mark on a friend's cheek."
Looks like its time to get down to the make-up counter and become a Lady in Red.
