Kate Moss, Stella McCartney, Victoria Beckham - who wore it best at the British Fashion Awards

If there is one place when you don't want to turn up looking a mess it has got to be the British Fashion Awards and the cream of the world of couture scrubbed up for the ceremony at London's Savoy Hotel last night.

Alexander McQueen designer Sarah Burton walked away with the big award of the night Designer of the Year but there were also honours for Victoria Beckham, Stella Tennant, Alexa Chung, Christopher Kane and veteran designer Paul Smith.

But forget the gongs what you really want to know is who looks best.

Here is our verdict:

The good

Model of the Year Stella Tennant could look good in most things so a balck trouser suit is not too much of a stretch however she gets high praise from us for rocking this season's radical slashed to the navel look. Hope she didn't lean forward much....

Seeing as she won icon of the year it is just as well Alexa Chung looked pretty great. In fact we think this may just be the best we have ever seen her look, even if she still refuses to wear heels.

It is a rare day when our own Abbey Crouch looks anything less than stunning and yesterday was not that day. She was her usual super-sexy self in this floor sweeping gown. Best of all afterwards she could use it to clean the windows.

The bad

We almost cannot believe we are saying this but what was Kate Moss wearing? An old fishing net? Her string vest dress did her no favours. Although we give her top marks for the great hair and make-up

Victoria Beckham may have been named brand of the year but this black dress was rather uninspiring and what is with all the heavy eye make-up? Relax it a little Victoria, you look much prettier.

And finally to Stella McCartney while we love Stella's super-sleek hair and we absolutely adore her latest designs we are not sold on this jumpsuit it needs a belt or something and those stripes are making our eyes go funny
