Happy Thrifty Christmas

By Emma on Nov 12, 08 05:02 PM

HARDLY a day goes by at the moment without some SW12 yummy mummy revealing her tips for living well and living thriftily.

Sunday Times writer India Knight is the latest to tear up the Amex and leap on the thrift bandwagon.

I'm as devoted to Martin Lewis's money saving tips as the next person, but while some of India's tips are well, interesting - crush up a cheap bottle of aspirins, mix with water and paste over the skin for a cheap clarifying face mask - others make my top lip curl.

Starry, Starry Nights....

By Emma on Nov 4, 08 04:27 PM

INCREDIBLE to imagine the A-listers of the music world will be trawling the streets of Liverpool with the rest of us this week.

Latest (well recentish) news in is that Kanye, The Killers, Perez Hilton and Pink will be getting hot and sweaty at the Carling Academy tomorrow night with the great unwashed (not GBS of course. Speaking for myself, I regard it as an occasion richly deserving of getting washed for).

Best Bond

By Emma on Oct 31, 08 04:43 PM

bondpic.jpgWHO was the sexiest Bond?

At the risk of mugs, pens, staplers and other desk equipment to hand being hurled at my head, I really can't subscribe to the Daniel Craig obession currently raging unchecked in our office.

I don't like soppy, I bruise too, Bond. I like the Bond who makes corny quips as he kills - "I think he got the point" (Thunderball, spear gun); "Shocking, positively shocking (Goldfinger, lamp in a bath tub) and employs the treat em mean technique with improbably named beauties.

DC, with his pale eyes and pouty mouth, leaves me cold. Just like gold. I liked Sean Connery, but the stories about him interfere with how much I like him now, even on-screen. Roger Moore was funny, but a little too posh to be sexy.

No, Pierce Brosnan, with his excellent training in Remington Steele, was the best Bond and he had the role down pat with Die Another Day.

Saying that though, if DC wants to prove me wrong, he can reach me c/o the Daily Post. My diary next week is pretty clear, just make sure you wear the tux. And bring the Aston Martin.

Tease It Like Dita

By Emma on Oct 28, 08 03:00 PM

dita2.jpgDITA Von Tease's high glamour 40s look is perfect for the red carpet and you can bet your bottle of gravy browning we'll see it at the MTV awards next Thursday.

The vampy long eyelashes, pale matte skin and pillar-box red lips is pure film noir femme fatale and it's a firm favourite with Kelly Brook, Lily Allen and Sienna Miller when they want to make an impact. Got wrong though, you risk straying into drag queen territory.

Unvarnished Truth

WENT to the launch of the Radisson's new spa the other day and manicurists were on hand (I know) to transform my scraggly finger ends.

The lady did an exquisite job bearing in mind what she had to work with. Base coat, which she carefully explained, would moisturise and encourage the nails to grow, two layers of pearly seashell pink, then a top coat to harden and protect from smudging.

Goggle Girls

By Emma on Oct 15, 08 08:00 AM

mail_goggles.jpgGoogle are introducing a 'goggle mail'. It stops you logging on to Facebook when you've had one Cosmopolitan or six too many.

You set the time when you want it to kick in over the weekend and a series of simple maths questions have to be answered before your message is sent.

Reaction: What took them so blinking long?

Chocolate Stilettos

Best of both worlds!
Maybe better for a night in on the sofa than a night on the tiles, but if you want a tasty pair of heels like this they're from The Chocolate Cellar, Birkenhead, and from November Hanover Street.

I've gone off Posh

By Emma on Oct 1, 08 08:00 AM

posh.jpgPosh's heel-less boots - horrible, ridiculous shoe travesties pulled on purely for publicity. New hair do though - cute and workmanlike. Though it probably requires three and a half hours of tweaking for the just-a-lick-of-spit carelessness.

Myleen's M&S

By Emma on Sep 24, 08 08:00 AM

The new M&S collection is all very nice but did Myleen Klass get in late the day they did the adverts?

Nice-ish lace dress.... then red plastic bangles and a mismatched spotty scarf. Meanwhile the 8ft, giraffe-necked professional model gets a nice coat with a nipped in waist that would make Hetty Wainthropp look lithe and lissom.

Never mind Myleen, just think of the money.

Minnie's Mini Me

By Emma on Sep 14, 08 05:51 PM

minniedriver.jpgMinnie Driver has always seemed like one of those stars just on the cusp of the A-list. Not quite American enough or blonde and starved into translucency enough for megastardom.
