IT TURNS out that Ms Ciconne is the Marmite of pop. When we put out a call to Style City readers and Girls Behaving Stylishly's Facebook friends for Madonna-related memories, the feedback was either adoring or downright vicious.

WHEN Madonna Louise Ciconne first burst onto the pop scene in the early 80s, she made an immediate statement with her crop tops, lace gloves, bleached blonde hair, bushy eyebrows and that much-imitated beauty spot (where did that go?).

An icon was born. Girls all over the country were hooked as they adorned their walls with posters of the Material Girl, sang Like A Virgin without really understanding the words, imitated her dance routines in the playground and tried to sneak out of the house flashing a bit of belly.

TO MARK the Queen of Pop's 50th birhday tomorrow, we at Girls Behaving Stylishly are holding Madonna Weekend.
